Upstream / downstream consolidation centre
A shared warehouse operated by a retailer to consolidate supplier flows and optimise the replenishment of its shops (downstream) or its distribution platforms (upstream). Supplier stock is placed in a shared, single-brand warehouse where order preparation takes place. This arrangement optimises transport between the consolidation centre, the platforms and the shops, and so increases the share of flows handled by cross-docking at the distribution platforms. The goods belong to the supplier until they leave the consolidation centre, so they represent off-site stock for the retailer.
